Do your homework before you go.

A traveler without a guide book and map is lost. Here are publishers and book sellers that can provide you with the guide books, maps, dictionaries, phrase books, and schedules you need in your travels.

Before buying any guide books, maps, or other publications read my chapter 10, Guide Books and Maps: Tomes for Travel in Europe. This chapter includes a brief review of many of the most popular guide books, some good, some bad, and some just ugly. It is amazing how a few authors and publishers can get away with foisting rotten goods on unsuspecting travelers. Some authors have obviously not been to the places they write about, and the names will surprise you.
